More tealight delight

Well, wild and ferocious weather! The sky looks mardy, ominous and burgeoning with rain. Sandbags line the main street (we’re on a Severe Weather Warning here) and the sea was roiling and broiling with white horses. I popped out to feed the swans and ducks  by the church then had a walk along the sea front. No little sandcastles to be found today, just clouds of starlings swirling about like tea leaves in the sky. And crows. I love them birds. Lots and lots of crows wandering around in their undertakers’ gear  – the collective noun is a ‘Murder of Crows’, so I may have impugned undertakers with that comment! Only joking! Poor things won’t find many scraps left by visitors today.

When I got in, my face was frozen! Took a while to thaw out. My friend came round early afternoon and we made a nice mess with paper (the tealights below) and salt dough. I’m making primitive hearts to dangle here and there on lengths of ribbon, come Christmas. We made a few small ones to glue onto  card fronts and some round ones to become craft buttons.  Tomorrow we’re painting them and I will probably varnish them Saturday or Sunday. I’ll post pics when they’re ready – if they turn out ok. Well, if they are a disaster I’ll show you them too! Anyway, here is a picture of some (seriously, we made more, we’re sharing them) of our glittered tealight houses. Some have no bottom, some have a boxed bottom, either way we can pop an electronic tealight under or inside for pretty Christmas lighting.

A quick update on the tealight houses (Nov 27). I tried out the LED tealights in a couple of houses ready for our special lighting up ceremony in a week or so’s time. I can’t wait to see a whole bunch of them  lit up, glowing and flickering prettily like a little village having lots of Christmas festivities and fun! It’s beginning to look a lot more like Christmas.

Well, Halloween is out of the way along with it 3D coffins and Rosemary’s Baby black pram party favours which I must post some pictures of. Halloween was fun. We went to a fancy dress party as Tubs and Edward from the League – without David or a suckling pig, I have to say. Those of you who know the League will understand. We recorded the Halloween Psychoville special as well and watched it last night. It doesn’t make me laugh out loud but it’s so compelling, surreal and brilliant and totally engaging. Dawn French is particularly fantastic. IMHO, I have often found that any actor or actress that does comedy (well!) can do serious drama or other genres superbly. Dawn French is no exception. Just brilliant.

We also had some friends over and had nice meal and an evening watching The Wicker Man. Of all horror/Sci Fi films (not that I watch that many, much prefer comedy) The Wicker Man, The Shining and Alien are my all-time favourites. Ah! Just thought – Pan’s Labyrinth was also fantastic. Four favourite films!

Anyhow, I still haven’t found time to sort the windmill out but will get round to it. Sadly, I’ve lost interest. I like to work out how to do something then I’m done. I know I can mod it and get it just as I want it… and therein lies the problem. No challenge. But I will.

Anyway,  today saw me skittering about making tealight houses. They started with a basic birdbox design and were developed from there. I need to get more electronic tealights so that I can set out a little village of tealight houses and cottages in the porch and have them all glowing and flickering after dark.

They’re very simple and one house fits on a single sheet of A4. The house is made in two main pieces – the house and the roof. The other bits – window frames, etc, get glued on over the top to add dimension and detail.

Hope you like them.
