If you Google ‘Painting Stones’ you will find more ideas for decorating stones than there are pebbles on a beach and some are truly beautiful. Have a look and you will what I mean.
As serendipity would have it, a Bray-day jolly and walks on the beach gave me lots of stones to choose a few to play with. Many of the stones are a good bit bigger than King Edward potatoes to give you some idea of the size I’m working with. Weight is a bit of an issue so I couldn’t pick up many, but luckily, the car park is right next to the beach and I managed to carry six. That’s plenty for me.
My collection have all had a couple of coats of Gesso to give the surface some tooth and a clean surface to decorate. From what I’ve read, you draw the design using a soft pencil then fill with colour using all sorts of things, eg, water colour paints, acrylics, gouache, Sharpie pens, metallic markers. I’ll be using metallic acrylic paints with a fine brush. Finally, seal the design with something like Mod Podge.
Hopefully I’ll make a good job of painting them. I fancy giving a mandala a go and have a fat round stone that lends itself to the job.
We shall see – I’ll post pictures when I’m done.
